Highly mobile landing troops (airborne troops) of Ukraine
Highly mobile landing troops (airborne troops) of Ukraineare a separate kind of troops in the structure of the Armed Forces. Its tasks include the vertical coverage of enemy units and the organization of subversive and combat operations in the rear.
Airborne forces of Ukraine are mobile parts,capable in the shortest possible time to relocate to specified areas and conduct point-based combat operations, including in the rear of the alleged enemy. From the regular parts of the Airborne Division it is distinguished by the autonomy of actions, maneuverability, the ability to carry out airborne assault, higher individual training of fighters.
The flag of the Airborne Forces of Ukraine is a blue-greenpanel, in the central part of which is located a stylized image in the yellow color scale of the coat of arms of Ukraine, descended on a parachute. On the sides there are two planes looking to the sky.
The main parts of the airborne troops of Ukraine are based in the following settlements:
- Zhytomyr: the command, the assault brigade (SShB) No. 95, the training center No. 199.
- Guards: ДШБ №25.
- Mykolayiv: DSB number 79.
- Lviv: DSB № 80.
- Druzhkovka: airborne brigade number 81.
The year of the creation of highly mobile troops is1992, when Ukraine gained independence. The basis was made up of parts of the landing, assault and air units of the former USSR. From the time of the Union, there remained a developed infrastructure, warehouses, supply systems, which contributed to the development of this kind of troops. After a series of reorganizations in 2013-2015, 5 brigades were formed, reinforced with tank companies. According to the law, landing units can be included in contingents for peacekeeping missions authorized by the UN.
The list of operational tasks of the Airborne Forces of Ukraine includes:
- Diversions in the rear.
- Interference in the control system of troops.
- Obstacles to the use of reserves.
- The fight against the infiltrated enemy airborne groups.
- Taking and holding bridgeheads, important facilities.
In peacetime, units of the Airborne Forces can be used to counter illegal groups, in international operations sanctioned by the UN.
Management of highly mobile parts is carried out by:
- Commander of the Airborne Troops AFL Lieutenant-General M.V. Zabrodsky.
- First-Lieutenant General A.T. Kovalchuk.
- First Deputy Major-General Yu.I. Sodol.
- The commander in charge of combat training, the head of the combat training department, Colonel V.S. Ivanov.
- Deputy Commander for Material and Technical Support Scherban.
- The deputy commander, the head of the department of missile forces and artillery Colonel SS. Artamoshchenko.
- Deputy Commander for Work with Personnel, Head of the Department for Work with Personnel Colonel S.N. Pavlushenko.
- The commander of the air service Colonel Yu.A. Galushkin.
The general structure of the Airborne Forces of Ukraine consists of: air, airborne, assault brigade, training center, units and support units.
Armament and military equipment
In the armament of the airborne forces of the APU are armored personnel carriersseries BTR-70, BTR-80, BTR-3E1, BTR-3DA; combat vehicles of the series BMD-1, BMD-2, BMP-1, BMP-2; tanks T-80BV, armored vehicles KrAZ "Spartan", other weapons.
In the arsenal of artillery units of the Airborne ForcesAPUs are howitzer self-propelled "Carnation" 2C1, "Acacia" 2C3; self-propelled gun "Nona" 2S9; Trailed howitzer D-30; the multiple rocket launcher BM-21 Grad; 82-mm mortar 2B-14 "Tray", automatic mortar 2B9 "Basil", 120-mm mortar 2B11; anti-tank missile systems Stugna-P, Fagot, Contest, Sturm-S; mobile control points and other equipment.
The Armed Forces of the Airborne Troops of the Airborne Armed Forces of the Armed Forces are armed with the Strela-10 air defense system, portable Igla SAM, ZY 23-2 anti-aircraft artillery systems, radar stations and mobile control posts.
When the Day of the Airborne Forces in Ukraine
Presidential Decree No. 457/2012 of 27 July.2012 The Day of the Airborne Troops AFW is celebrated on August 2. The resolution says that highly mobile troops make a significant contribution to the defense capability of Ukraine. Activities of combat training ensured the formation (maintenance) of individual skills of personnel in the landing. The units were consolidated and their readiness for joint and concerted actions with the units of the Ground Forces, the Marine Corps of the Navy, units of other military formations and law enforcement bodies was ensured.
In 2015, airborne airborne brigades werereinforced tank units. Thus, they turned into a landing assault. Each of the five brigades should be manned by a tank company. To strengthen the airborne forces, T-80 tanks were chosen, because thanks to gas turbine installations they have the advantage of speed and maneuverability in comparison with T-64. In May 2017, the Concern "Ukroboronprom" prepared another batch of T-80 tanks that had been overhauled for delivery to the landing troops.
During the course of 2015, 18 battaliontactical exercises, 46 company tactical exercises, 137 live firing of platoons and 420 combat firing from the armament of tanks and combat vehicles. Five brigade tactical exercises were held for the first time.
